Starting February, 2023, Salesforce will require all customers to use MFA to access Salesforce products. 

As the security landscape evolves and threats that compromise user credentials grow more common, it’s important to implement strong security measures to protect your business and customers. Thankfully, Salesforce can provide an extra layer of security for your login process that requires users to confirm that they are who they say they are before logging in. This is called Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), one of the easiest, most effective ways to help prevent unauthorised account access and safeguard your Salesforce data.

MFA doesn’t auto enable for the below license types and environments

  • External users, Community licenses, External Identity licenses, and Employee Community licenses (i.e. Experience Cloud sites, e-commerce sites, help portals, employee communities)
  • Chatter External and Chatter Free users
  • Automated Testing and RPA Account Logins to the UI
  • API / Integration Logins
  • Scratch orgs
  • Trailhead Playgrounds

MFA requires each user to sign-in via their preferred authentication method on a single device – this means that users cannot share log-ins, and will need access to their specified authentication device.

How does MFA Work?

MFA is a strong authentication method that requires users to provide two or more factors to prove their identity before they can login. One factor is something the user knows, such as a username and password combination. Other factors are verification methods that the user has, like an authenticator app or security key.

Salesforce MFA supports many kinds of verification methods, including the Salesforce Authenticator app, time-based one-time passwords (TOTP), Google or Microsoft Authenticators, and Security Keys. Salesforce MFA does not support email verification codes, phone calls, or SMS Text messages as verification methods.

Once MFA is enabled, users login with their username and password combination, then confirm their identity with a supported verification method of their choice. Whilst login may take users a few extra seconds with MFA, the additional verification step pays invaluable dividends by protecting your business and ensuring your customers’ trust.

How do I setup MFA?

There are plenty of resources provided by Salesforce to help you rollout MFA on your Salesforce platform, including a Multi-Factor Authentication Assistant, detailed documentation, and Trailheads. The main activities that should be included in a standard MFA rollout are outlined below.

Get Ready

    • Learn why MFA is strongly recommended for enhanced login security, what your options are, and how your company benefits.
    • Evaluate your business and user requirements and align them with the MFA options for your Salesforce products to start defining your implementation strategy.
    • Plan your MFA implementation, including rollout, change management, and support strategies, so that you’re ready to hit the ground running.

Roll Out

    • Prepare users for the MFA rollout by putting your change management strategy into action.
    • Implement MFA by kicking off your implementation and test plan, including establishing your MFA support processes and team.
    • Launch MFA to users on your scheduled go-live date.

Manage

    • Measure the effectiveness of your MFA rollout through user feedback and metrics.
    • Support users with ongoing, day-to-day operations.
    • Optimise your MFA implementation and your overall security procedure.

Reflecting on the past 10 years – the challenges, accomplishments and values that drive us forward, and what’s next for NimbusPoint.

This is a watershed moment for NimbusPoint! We celebrated our 10th birthday last week. Despite the unexpected obstacles posed by the pandemic, we’re glad to announce that this has been one of our best periods at NimbusPoint, and it’s a fantastic moment to reflect on our journey thus far, the lessons we’ve learned, and celebrate our accomplishments.

Our History

NimbusPoint came together as a result of Parminder Bharath, Mobashar Shaffiq, Colin Kenworthy and Sarah Brock, the 4 founders, who are still a key part of the company today. They recognised that with their collective experience in various IT backgrounds, they could deliver and set-up a Salesforce Consultancy that could not only implement Salesforce solutions, but develop long-lasting customer relationships and top-quality customer service while doing so. Their vision was to become a go-to specialist Salesforce Consultancy across specific industry verticals, providing expert Salesforce product knowledge and continuous learning through their customer experiences.

10 Years of NimbusPoint: The Numbers

Our Year in 2021

Undeniably, a key part of the year has been the COVID-19 pandemic, overshadowing everyone’s lives over this difficult time. But NimbusPoint rose to the occasion and made this one of best-ever years.

We recognised that the pandemic provided challenges for those who wanted to enter the world of Salesforce, but high barriers to entry coupled with uncertainty made this difficult to achieve. So, early this year, we launched our NimbusPoint Graduate Recruitment Scheme to support new graduates looking for employment.

Having worked at NimbusPoint for only a short while, I’m delighted to have been afforded so many opportunities to work on a wide variety of projects. Alongside project work, I have also been able to pass both my Salesforce Administrator and Sales Cloud Consultant certifications and am now working towards my Education Cloud Consultant certification. In terms of projects, 2021 has been one of our busiest, but best years, so far. We have delivered our first Local Government Salesforce Implementation for Guildford Borough Council, and we’re in discussions with other councils about implementing similar solutions, using our experience and technical know-how. We’ve also been working closely with the Motion Picture Licensing Company (MPLC), to deliver a multi-cloud Salesforce Solution across over 20 other countries around the world. The project, still ongoing, has been a huge success so far as we roll-out the comprehensive design across the globe – all through combining our agile methodology know-how and remote-working experience.

A part of our charitable efforts this year, we‘ve joined the Pledge 1% movement, supporting our chosen charity, the British Asian Trust, supporting women in South Asia be free from poverty and equip women with the new skills, knowledge and confidence needed to earn a decent living in a post-COVID world. We look forward to working with the charity closely next year to help them achieve their goals.

Going forwards: 2022, and beyond

Over the next 10 years, we see a number of challenges and opportunities ahead of us and the Salesforce ecosystem.

Within our customer base, we noticed (much like ourselves) that they were being faced with unprecedented obstacles in the form of the pandemic. We were always impressed by how our clients reacted and overcame these challenges, all with one aim in mind: to serve their customers and achieve their missions, no matter the obstacles.

With the pandemic still taking place, and being likely to have ongoing, lasting implications, many of our clients battle for those they serve, and to achieve their objectives. We’re proud of the work that NimbusPoint has performed in the last two years, and still does, to assist those organisations in achieving their objectives. We all share a mutual goal — their continued success – and we have a special place in helping businesses achieve their goals.

On that note, for NimbusPoint ourselves, one of our main challenges is continually delivering the best customer experience and advice for our Salesforce client. With Salesforce implementing new features and updates to its products on a seasonal basis, as a Consultancy, we have a responsibility to keep fully up-to-date and cognisant of what is out there and available to our customers. So, here at NimbusPoint, we’re investing in our employees and empowering them to take the time they need to fully upskill and train on Salesforce.

We’re also looking to increase our headcount by up to 25%. We are continuing to retain people from the local talent pool, and introduce people from all backgrounds in life into the Salesforce eco-system.  in order to increase our talent pool and be able to deliver more projects,

How to Implement Salesforce Multi-Factor Authentication using the Salesforce Authenticator

In the modern world, malicious online activity and user credential theft are growing more widespread. Thus, safeguarding your users’ access and details is a major priority in order to secure both your company and customer data.

MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication) is a more secure authentication solution that prevents unwanted access to your data even if your credentials (username/password) have been hacked.

Salesforce will automatically enable MFA to access Salesforce products from February, 2023.

How does MFA work?

MFA can prevent some of the most common types of attacks.

Using usernames and passwords alone does not provide sufficient protection, because it’s easy for bad actors to exploit weak or reused passwords.

MFA ties user access to multiple, different types of authentication factors, making it much harder for common threats like phishing attacks or credential stuffing to succeed — which ultimately makes your Salesforce environment safer from unauthorized access by bad actors.

For example, even if a user’s password is stolen, the odds are very low that an attacker will also be able to guess or hack the code from a user’s authentication app.

As security threats grow increasingly common, protecting account access is more and more important. As a result, Salesforce is doubling down to help customers adapt to a new reality, and to do it while maintaining secure control over their systems and data.

Enabling MFA for Salesforce

When MFA is enabled for Salesforce products, users must employ a strong verification method as their second factor for logging in. Strong verification methods initiate a secure exchange with Salesforce and can only be completed by the user who possesses the method.

Salesforce offers simple, innovative MFA solutions that provide a balance between strong security and user convenience. Depending on the Salesforce product, these strong verification methods are available:

  • Salesforce Authenticator mobile app
    • Available for all Salesforce products
  • Third-party time-based one-time password (TOTP) Authenticator apps such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, or Authy
    • Available for all Salesforce products
  • WebAuthn or U2F physical security keys (using USB, Lightning, or NFC), such as a Yubikey or Google’s Titan Security key
    • Available for all Salesforce products, with the exception of Tableau Online
  • Built-in authenticators: Biometric systems, such as Touch ID, Face ID, and Windows Hello, which verify a user’s identity using a device’s fingerprint, iris, or facial recognition scanners. Some systems also allow the use of a PIN or password identifier.
    • Available for Heroku, Marketing Cloud-Datorama, MuleSoft Anypoint Platform — and as of the Winter ‘22 release, for products built on the Salesforce Platform (as a Beta service)

Products built on the Salesforce Platform: WebAuthn-compatible security keys, and keys that use the NFC form factor, aren’t supported.

WebAuthn-compatible security keys aren’t supported in non-Chromium versions of the Edge browser.

Salesforce doesn’t allow email, SMS text messages, phone calls, or security questions as verification methods for MFA because email credentials can be compromised, and text messages and phone calls can be intercepted.

It’s a lot harder for bad actors to get control of an actual mobile device or physical security key than it is to infiltrate an email account or hack a cell phone number.

What will users experience?

After MFA is enabled, in order to log in, affected users must register at least one verification method to connect it to their Salesforce account.

If you’re supporting an authenticator app like Salesforce Authenticator, users must download and install the app. If you opt to deploy security keys, you need to purchase and distribute keys to your users.

The registration process is automatically initiated the first time a user tries to log in after they’ve been enabled for MFA. The process walks the user through connecting their verification method to their Salesforce account.

Each time an MFA-enabled user logs in, they’re prompted to provide their verification method after they enter their username and password.

Salesforce Authenticator

The Salesforce Authenticator mobile app is a strong verification method that users can easily install and connect to their Salesforce accounts. The app is free and simple to use, minimizing the impact of MFA on the user experience.

Salesforce Authenticator makes the extra authentication step required by MFA easy because it automatically integrates into your current Salesforce login process. After a user enters their username and password, the app sends a notification to their mobile device.

The user taps the notification to open Salesforce Authenticator, verifies the login request is coming from them, and then they’re logged in.

Salesforce Authenticator allows users to automate the extra MFA authentication step when working from a trusted location.

Salesforce highly recommends that users set up a PIN or biometric requirement on their mobile device to ensure that unauthorized parties aren’t able to access Salesforce Authenticator.

Salesforce Authenticator is available for all Salesforce products that have MFA functionality.

Salesforce Authenticator: Set-Up Guide

To register Salesforce Authenticator the first time you log in after MFA is turned on, follow these onscreen instructions:

1.

Install Salesforce Authenticator on your mobile device. It’s available from the Apple App Store or Google Play.

2.

On your computer, log in to your account. You may be prompted to verify your identity with a one-time passcode via email or text message.

3.

The screen to register Salesforce Authenticator displays automatically.

4.

On your mobile device, open Salesforce Authenticator and tap Add an Account.

5.

The app displays a two-word phrase.

6.

On your computer, enter the phrase in the Two-Word Phrase field. Then click Connect.

7.

Salesforce Authenticator is connected to your Salesforce account. You’re prompted to confirm the connection details in the app.

8.

In Salesforce Authenticator, verify that the connection details are correct, then tap Connect.

9.

And that’s it! You’ve successfully connected Salesforce Authenticator to your account.

10.

And on your screen, a success message (green tick icon) should display as you finish logging in.

In 2020, Guildford Borough Council embarked upon a major organisation-wide digital transformation project which challenged every aspect of what they did and how they did it.

The aims of the programme were to:

  • Make best use of digital technologies to deliver cost-effective services
  • Improve customer experience, engagement and a future-proof platform

After reviewing a variety of CRM platforms, Salesforce® was identified as the preferred solution to deliver a multi-channel CRM with powerful automation, integration and mobile working capabilities.   • Manage tasks using queues

  • Help agents manage tasks using Einstein Article Recommendations

  • Re-order sections in your community with Flexible Layouts

Sales Cloud

Task Queues

A much needed feature that customers have been waiting for was the ability to place Tasks in a Queue. Salesforce has listened and has delivered this feature as part of the Spring ’20 Release.

Sales reps can now share their workload by creating specific task queues to enhance business processes and improve efficiency. Just like existing queue functionality, members of the queue can view and manage tasks via list views.

Clone Opportunities with Related Records

Salesforce users when cloning an opportunity record have sometimes required the need to clone the related records as well. Unfortunately, outside an apex code solution, Salesforce did not provide this functionality.

This valuable feature is now available for users who are faced with cloning opportunity records with many related contact roles, products, or product line item records.

Service Cloud

Einstein Article Recommendations

Salesforce continues to improve it’s AI and business intelligence offering with its natural language processing (NLP) engine feature called Einstein Article Recommendations.

Einstein Article Recommendation works by suggesting the best knowledge articles to agents based on case data across SMS, chat, and other channels. Einstein Article Recommendations are easy to set up with out-of-the-box components for fast time-to-value.

Digital Engagement: Messaging for Whatsapp

Companies can now have efficient two-way coversations with the 1.6 billion Whatsapp users. Customers are able to contact your support centre via Whatsapp, without needing to utilise a third party application.

Agents can be more productive by handling more complex conversations simultaneously and have the ease of using template notifications to customers, such as appointment updates or shipment notifications.

Community

Flexible Layouts

In Lightning communities, you can now reorder sections in your flexible layout pages by dragging them to the desired location. Previously, users were only able to add sections, without dragging and re-ordering the item.

Report Builder for Lightning Components

Create, delete, and edit reports directly from your community with the New Report Button. The main aim of this is to enable users to easily navigate from one page, creating a more efficient process. To access this feature, navigate to the Report List page in your community.

This year, Dreamforce saw a great turn out, with thousands turning up for the infamous opening keynote run by Co-CEO’s Marc Benioff and Keith Block. As predicted, there were various new releases and Salesforce enhancements, covering all clouds.

From new artificial intelligence advances through to new Trailhead apps, there was something new and exciting for every Salesforce enthusiast. Marc Benioff even managed to deal with an unexpected protester during the presentation, who he gave 30 seconds of “free speech” to.

Highlights

Call Coaching

With Einstein Voice Calling, Salesforce now allows you to voice record calls, helping users perfect how they communicate with customers. Sales managers will now be able to have insight into how you are speaking to customers, advise on improvements and ensure the sales rep is getting the most out of every call.

It is also useful for understanding customer pain points, learning new things about your customers and how they behave to make future decisions. Research has shown that companies who adopt coaching methods have a rate 28% higher than those who don’t.

Service Cloud Voice

Service Cloud Voice uses cloud telephony, powered by Amazon Connect, to transcribe calls surfacing transcriptions in real-time and connecting them to Salesforce records. This speeds up the resolution for customers by 31 times.

The release highlights the new partnership between Amazon & Salesforce, which aims to use Amazon’s telephony skills and the intelligence from Salesforces Einstein. The telephony vendors deal with the call transcription and then Einstein reads this and provides the best next steps in real-time.

Trailhead Go

Trailhead Go is the new Trailhead app created to enable Salesforce training on the go. This allows users to learn more about the platform, enhance their skills or learn new ones wherever they are, on their phone or tablet. This new announcement is guaranteed to become a useful tool, especially for those who travel a lot and use their mobiles often.

This app has been created by both Salesforce and Apple, who have teamed up to provide productivity. Tim Cook, CEO of Apple commented his “confidence in the growth trajectory for enterprise apps built on Apple-Salesforce partnership platform is sky-high.”

Customer-360 Truth

Following on from Salesforce acquiring MuleSoft last year, the Customer-360 has advanced even more by creating the “Customer-360 Truth Profile.” The main aim of this innovative advancement is to collect as much data on each customer as possible by integration. Data coming from multiple different sources are transformed from Input ID’s into Customer ID’s, helping to generate a clearer view of each customer.

This upgrade will be free for all users and guaranteed to help improve the relationship between companies and customers.

Every year, thousands of Salesforce Trailblazers, Customers and Partners fill the streets of San Francisco to attend the global Salesforce event of the year, Dreamforce!

Dreamforce gives attendees a chance to see the latest innovations, Salesforce features, and lots of amazing keynote speeches and breakout sessions. If you are attending Dreamforce this year, we have compiled a list of top tips to ensure you get the most out of this amazing technology festival. Don’t worry if you are unable to attend, you can still get involved and follow the event via ‘The Road To Dreamforce‘ and watch live, where you can view the sessions and keynotes online.

Top Tips:

  • Planning

    With an endless amount of speakers, keynotes and workshops to fit into a tight four day schedule, it can be difficult deciding where to go. However, if you plan what you want to see and know how to get there it will make your time a lot less stressful!

    Ensure you arrive in plenty of time for the Keynotes you want to see
    Popular Keynotes will require you to queue early, to guarantee a spot. Barack Obama’s Keynote is unsurprisingly going to be one of the most popular ones, so make sure to get down early.

  • Use the Salesforce Events App

    Keep up to date with any news and everything happening at Dreamforce! The app allows you to personalise your schedule, and check what is happening and where. It is even perfect for those who are not going to Dreamforce, with Salesforce live you can watch keynotes and sessions straight from your phone.

  • Use the Agenda Builder

    The Agenda Builder is a useful tool for attendees, to plan the sessions they want to see. You can use this tool to segment the sessions based on: Categories, Industries, Themes, Roles, Products and/or level. Once you’ve set the builder to see the sessions only relevant to you, you can then bookmark the sessions you are interested in. Whilst the Agenda Builder is a great tool, remember bookmarking does not reserve you a seat! It is recommended to arrive at least 10 minutes early to the sessions to guarantee a seat
